DIL DOSTI ETC

For most of the Indian kids who go to college, the institution becomes a second home. Higher education is bliss, specially in INDIA. I’d read some where in a magazine that if you have a home and clothes to wear and food to eat, you are actually richer than 75% of the people in the whole world. Regardless of the fact whether it was true or not, I do consider myself lucky to be studying in a college. For that, I sincerely thank my dad. I’m grateful that he didn’t give up on me. :-)

Now, am doing my bachelors in Commerce(B.com) from St.Xavier’s college, Calcutta. And I am proud to say that its one of the premiere institutes in India. St.Xavier’s is currently in the 2nd position among all the commerce colleges. :-D

Now, am not going to brag about the laurels of my college. The name speaks for itself. But the sole reason I’m putting up this post is because I want to share some of the golden days that I’ve spent in my college with friends I’ll treasure all my life.

I joined in 2007 and unfortunately I was the only one who joined from my school for the B.Com course. I Felt a little alienated, thinking about the long three years that I had to spent in St.Xavier’s. College would start at 6am and since my house was quite far from the college, I had to wake up at 4am to reach on time. And to top it all, the B.Com morning was only for boys. Damn. How was I to survive all this hardship? NO GIRLS, NO KNOWN FACES, MORNING TRAUMA!!!aaarrrhhh….This was enough to freak me out.

And now its 2010(obviously). And less than 6 months to go before college life gets over. Its been like a shooting star. But in case of the stars, you only get to see the phenomenon. In my case, I get to keep the stars. And my stars are my friends.

This friendship thing is so peculiar you know. You just connect, in some mysterious ways.

And trying to find the reason is merely a waste of time. I do have quite a few friends from my school, but it is in college that I have come to experience the best gift in the world. The gift of friendship.

With my friends, I laughed out loud and their hankies (dirty) were always available when tears came rolling out of my eyes. We cheated whole heartedly in the exams and played pranks on every professor we came across. We celebrated each other’s birthdays in the best way possible. Actually it was for the cake. We can do anything for the CAKE.

With my friends, I roamed around park street like it were my ancestral property. Bargained hundred rupee stuffs for twenty, and bought it for twenty five. Had breakfast at Pandey’s and raced to the classes to catch up the next period(class). We hit on girls and made fun of those who hit on boys(actually, there were quite a few). We delayed assignments and made hilarious excuses.

We boozed and danced like mad men. We raced against each other in cars and spilled beer on each other. We almost killed each other over a game of cricket(that was all passion). We sang to Clarence’s guitar and changed the lines of the songs to our will(papa kehte hai bada naam karega, tujhko sab hai pata meri maa..la la la).

We abused each other when we got angry, but always made up the next day. We made fun of each other’s girlfriends and called them names(that is fun). We never missed the opportunity to steal a bite off each other’s ice cream . we even laughed when we were suspended(such was our courage). Last minute studies are in our blood and the most serious study would be on the way to the exam hall. We went gaga over converse shoes and compared them with each other’s. we took photos of each other peeing( but I was never into it- promise). We locked up each other in the bathroom and placed bets as to who was man enough to go into the girl’s bathroom(not because it was the girl's bathroom, but because it would always stink so much and bet was not to get unconscious till you got out) . We went for countless number of movies and laughed our lungs out even on the most emotional scenes. Aah…so many others shit that we did. And it was soo much fun doing it together. I’m just proud to have friends like mine. They are gems. People whom you can treasure your whole life. We are a whole gang of SMART IDIOTS.

I thank my college for bringing them all together and thank GOD for the wonderful people who came into my life.

I just wish that we remain friends for ever and always be in touch wherever we go.

wish you all the success in life guys.

Love you fellas.

YOU ARE THE BEST.
